The Hartness House Inn, in picturesque
Southern Vermont is located on 35 acres in historic Springfield,
Vermont and offers elegant lodging in a world-class setting. A
restful retreat for guests and visitors to Vermont's renowned
Green Mountains country. This award-winning elegant
Inn offers sweeping views of the rolling Vermont countryside
and easy access to both Vermont and New Hamsphire attractions.
Local attractions include countless antique shops and malls,
museums, farms, and tours historic town like Grafton and
Woodstock.
This historic estate's rennovations were completed in late 1998
and major rennovations were done in 2004 turning this remarkable
establishment into a world-class Inn. Three wings, a working
telescope observatory, astronomy museum and a dramatic interior
of the original Hartness Mansion comprise this truly unique environment.
All rooms include full country breakfast, afternoon
tea, full bar service, and local newspaper delivery.
Activities and amenities include: skiing, canoeing,
horseback riding, nature
trails, and golf at a nearby private club.
The
Governor's Restaurant, the Inn's fine dining restaurant is frequently
cited by the local press as "a four star dining experience
for a three star price".
The Inn is recognized for its history. The mansion
was built by wealthy industrialist and governor
of Vermont, James Hartness. Hartness inventions
became the conerstone for the industrial growth
of the US. The Inn features an unique
underground tunnel leading to an astronomy museum
and an antique observatory with a working 1910
Equatorial Tracking Telescope.
Recognition: In December 1998, The
Hartness House Inn was recognized by the renown Andrew
Harper's Hideaway Report. Each year, Harper
singles out some of the world's most captivating hideaway
hotels and resorts for special recognition. To be initially
considered for the annual awards competition, nominees must
be relatively intimate in size and be located in truly peaceful
and scenically pleasing surroundings. Compatible resorts
are then judged for their all-around comfort, non-commercial
character and passionate commitment to personal service.
