Bucket MillRobert AskeyThis scene of folk art takes me back to a quieter time. The Bucket Mill is the commercial heart of the community. Many of the nearby neighbors spend part of their day working at the mill. The remainder of their day is devoted to their farms. Some early American families left the farms in stages. |

Lighthouse WashdayRobert AskeyThough this is an idyllic scene rendered in the folk art style, it contains a reminder. The simple life thought happy, bright and possibly free of stress, lacked certain of our conveniences. Here is the mainland neighbor communicating with semaphore flags in pre-telephone times. He may be alerting the lighthousekeeper and family to a covered dish dinner up the road at the meeting house. |

Drift WoodMarilyn ThompsonA scene from the west coast of Washington. I was amazed at the sight of these magnificent rock formations which clearly spoke to me of God's beauty and might in nature, as contrast to the insignificant size of man on the shore and the waste of driftwood. |

Springfield RailroadMarilyn ThompsonThis painting tells the story of the enoromous work and perserverance it took to bring forth our railroads of today. Inspired by an antique 2" by 3" monogromic picture, I enjoyed putting in the colors to match the picture values. Painting from a balck and white picture is a challenge that I often take. |

Fairfax BarnJules HebertOn a trip to Westford, Vermont, to visit my friends, we came upon this wonderful large barn. I had to stop and take photographs, and walk upon the property to absorb the feeling and take a closer look at the barn and observe the condition, color and general feeling of this grand old building which had fallen into disuse. As I love to paint most forms of architecture, I knew I had to do this barn. |

Fletcher Farm FloralsNan DurlingI was fortunate enough to take a week long workshop at Fletcher Farm, Ludlow, Vermont, which is a wonderful place that teaches arts and craft for years. While there, I learned new techniques in pastel painting from fresh flowers with pastels and alcohol on a rough surface. Art is to be enjoyed and that I did. |

The GatheringNancy DiMauro"Gathering" is from our trip to Sicily. Oler men dressed in caps and jackets, are often found in groups having lively discussions. There was a tall, graceful metal fence separating me, so I used my long-distance lens to capture them without interrupting them. The place is Palma di Montechiaro on the southern edge of Sicily not far from Mar Mediterraneo. |

Moonlit QuietLeo SalazarWhile leaving evening midweek services at the Weston Priory, I could help but notice the brilliant moonlight that was reflecting off the building and the melting snow. I walked around the barn extension where during the summer a hundred of people would sit for services, but this night was very quiet and meditative. The composition felt like a magnet to my eyes... the brilliant moon reflecting off the platform and the snow and the distant trees silloutted against the sky. |

The Break of DayWarren MorseAbstract painting is beyond me. The only way that I can escape the representational is to sketch and outline a landscape and play as the spirit moves me with color and shape. Call me an abstract naturalist. |

Navajo ElderDorothy YoderWorking from a yellowed old newspaper photo provided by teacher Marguarite de Bord, I was amazed at the way that this picture jumped off the paper. I chose the colors of course. Today I would do it differently but I don't know if I would still get the same feeling of connection to this haunting face reflecting the challenges of fitting stone age culture into modern times. |

Venice AfternoonBarbara MorressyI painted this to revisit a golden late afternoon in Venice. As gondolas wind their way back to the Grand Canal you can see that Venice is quieting down and taking on a rich patina of its own. |
